The Man Who Fixed the Clock at St. Elmo's Church
Description
October of 1987, just outside Balsam Grove, North Carolina. Luna's grandfather was a watchmaker who took a job nobody else would touch—the old clock in St. Elmo's church tower, stopped for forty-three years. He worked by lantern light, alone, and he brought Luna along. She remembers the way the gears felt wrong, the sound of something winding itself back from the other side, and the face she saw in the tower window when she looked up at the wrong moment. This is a story about time that doesn't pass, about a promise made to something that should never have been answered, and about what it means when a clock starts ticking again after decades of silence. Luna tells it the way her grandfather told her—carefully, in pieces, with the smell of oil and dust still in her memory.
