Opry Honors Troops with Anniversary Salute
Description
Salute the Troops Event at Grand Ole Opry: A Musical Tribute to Service Members and Veterans
The Grand Ole Opry hosted its annual Salute the Troops event, a special performance honoring active-duty service members and veterans. This years show, a collaboration with Middle Tennessee State University, featured a red carpet and appearances from military leaders.
The lineup included Opry members like Craig Morgan, an Army Reserve warrant officer and MTSU alumnus, alongside MTSU alumna HunterGirl and Lauren Alaina. The event also showcased the musical talents of The War and Treaty and the hundredth and three hundred thirteenth Army Reserve Bands.
Army Lieutenant General Robert Harter administered the oath of enlistment to six new recruits onstage, encouraging others to consider joining the Army Reserve. The performance took place just before Memorial Day weekend and held extra significance with the Opry celebrating its one hundredth anniversary and the nation marking its two hundred fiftieth.
The Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at MTSU, which supports over twelve hundred military-connected students, also sponsored the tribute. The Daniels Center, now in its tenth year, was recognized for its work supporting student veterans and military families.
