Kirsten Corson: Drive Electric Chair on the State of the Nation Report, push to further electrify the transport system
Description
Electrifying the transport system will require strong bi-partisan action.
The Drive Electric State of the Nation report has found globally, one in four new vehicle purchases are electric – up from one in five in 2024.
Chair Kirsten Corson says strides are being made in public transport, with New Plymouth's bus fleet being 100% electric, and Auckland Transport having more than 300 electric buses.
She told Mike Hosking it’s not an environmental decision anymore – it's an economic one.
In the past three years they’ve seen the percentage of new vehicle sales that are electric increasing in countries like Ethiopia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Turkey, Corson says, as from an economic perspective, they no longer want to import fossil fuels.
