The Ghost-Light on Bleecker Street
Description
Luna arrives for the first time at the Theater on Bleecker—a forgotten jewel box of a venue in Greenwich Village, rented sight unseen for a summer stock run. It is October, late, and the city smells of wet leaves and diesel. The stage door groans open onto a silent auditorium where only the ghost-light burns. She walks the aisles, tests the boards, tries the dressing room locks. Everything seems ordinary, almost charmingly shabby, until she finds the stage manager's logbook from 1972, its last entry unfinished: 'The girl in the balcony is not in the cast.' The seats are empty. The balcony is dark. But Luna cannot shake the feeling that someone is still sitting there, watching her read aloud.
