Description
Luna stands in her dressing room, the blank final page trembling in her hands. The shadow woman is silent, the theater holds its breath. And then—a sound from the stage: a single piano key, struck and held. Luna follows it through the dark theater, past the ghost light that has gone out, to the orchestra pit where a woman sits at the piano. She is not the shadow woman. She is older, dressed in a costume from decades past, and she is playing a melody that Luna knows from the rehearsal tapes. When the woman speaks, she says: 'You're not supposed to be here. Not yet.' The theater's hunger has a timeline, and Luna is running ahead of schedule. The woman—Clara, from the 1947 production—was never consumed; she hid in the pit, playing the same four bars for sixty-five years. Now she tells Luna the truth: the play can be unwritten, but only if Luna is willing to destroy the one thing the theater loves most—its own story. The episode ends with Luna holding a match to the script, and a scream from the balcony that is not her own.
