Description
The curtain rises on the final act, and Luna stands alone on the stage of the Theater on Bleecker. The ghost light is out, the red velvet curtains are drawn, and the auditorium is full—not with people, but with something that watches. As she speaks the first line of the play, her voice is not her own. The script is in her hand, but the words are coming from somewhere else—from the balcony, from the shadow woman, from the hungry theater itself. The audience laughs at moments she didn't intend. They whisper lines she has never heard. And when she tries to stop, the pages keep turning on their own. Somewhere in the dark, a typewriter types faster and faster. Luna realizes she is not performing a role—she is being written into one. The final page is blank, but the pen is moving. And in the front row, a woman in a white dress watches with Lydia's eyes.
