The Law of the Pack
Description
A worried mother went to meet her son’s teacher after receiving a note from the school, fearing her junior-high-aged Eddie already both mature and helpful at home had fallen into serious trouble. Instead, she was told his grades were excellent, but his real “problem” was that he did not “relate” to his peer group: instead of wasting time in childish nonsense, he read, studied, worked, and refused to follow the crowd. The teacher insisted that Eddie must relate to the “reality” of his classmates for mental health, but the mother knew, and Eddie had been taught, that the true reality we must relate to is God, not the mob especially when Scripture commands, “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Exod. 23:2). When schools deny the sovereignty of God, they inevitably affirm the sovereignty of man, and then “relating” to the pack becomes the supreme virtue; but Eddie chose instead to relate to God, and that was counted as deviance.
