The Clerk Who Stayed at the All-Night Texaco

Season 1 Episode 16 Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description

October 1998, just outside Milledgeville, Georgia — a lonely gas station at the junction of two county roads where the pumps are old and the fluorescent lights hum low. Luna tells the story of Delia, the overnight clerk who had been working the 11-to-7 shift for three years at the Texaco on Highway 57. It starts with a custom — a man in a gray sedan who pulls in every Tuesday at 2:17 AM, buys a pack of peppermint gum, and says nothing. But one Tuesday he leaves something on the counter. A Polaroid. Then another. Then a note in small block letters. And Delia begins to realize that the man's visits aren't random — they're a countdown. The horror is not what he does, but what she begins to see in the photographs: the same gas station, the same counter, but always with something slightly wrong. A clock reading a different time. A shadow where there wasn't one. Her own face, looking older, looking frightened, looking like she's already seen what happens next. And then the last photograph shows the station empty, the lights off, and a date written on the back in blue ink. Tonight, Luna reads from Delia's journal — the last three days before that date arrives.
