Description

Today’s reading from 1 Chronicles 7–9 and John 6:22–44 invites us to reflect on what truly sustains us over time and how easily we can become focused on temporary satisfaction while missing deeper formation happening underneath the surface.

In 1 Chronicles, the genealogies and records remind us that God’s people were formed through long histories, generations, ordinary faithfulness, and steady continuity. Even passages that feel repetitive reveal that God works across long stretches of time, shaping identity and preserving His people through seasons that may not always feel dramatic or exciting.

In John 6, the crowds continue following Jesus after the feeding of the five thousand, but Jesus challenges them to move beyond temporary provision and toward deeper trust in Him. Rather than simply offering another miracle, Jesus reveals Himself as the true bread from heaven, the One who gives lasting life to the world.

Together, these passages invite us to slow down and consider whether we may be seeking temporary satisfaction instead of deeper dependence on Christ. They remind us that spiritual formation often happens gradually, through daily trust, steady returning, and learning to recognize what truly sustains us over time.
