Published 1 year, 4 months ago
Description

NBA Mike Caref is running for NALC President. Here is a mix of questions regarding the NBA position and his campaign to be NALC President.

00:00 - Intros

10:40 - In the NALC Officers Report book that was handed out at the 2024 NALC Convention you wrote “Bargaining unit employees of the federal government are eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave. Meanwhile, postal workers don’t have any paid leave for this purpose, and can only use our earned leave or LWOP where the FLMA provides for it.” — As we see with this Tentative Agreement still ignoring this issue, what are your thoughts?

15:30 - What are your thoughts on the tentative agreement ballot issues?

20:06 - At a meeting on February 22, 2023 Renfroe told you that he had other people to assist him with bargaining the contract and wouldn’t need you past the committee work that ended in March 2023. - Can you talk about what the committee is and does? And moving forward, should the Business Agents be fully part of the CBA bargaining team and required to individually approve the TA before it’s released to the membership?

25:55 - What are your thoughts on a contract expiration date to expire with other labor unions? May 1st 2028 like UAW President Shawn Fain has suggested.

29:51 - Do any of the USPS labor union actually work together?

32:56 - Can you tell us some of the proposals you committee came up with for the Tentative Agreement?

38:45 - NALC likes to talk a lot of the Political Fund, but my belief is, I hope many other union members feel this as well: “An injury to one, is an injury to all”, right? So how can we justify donating PAC money from Union members to the pockets of a politician that is actively trying to crush another labor union?

Example:

Illinois. Darin LaHood received $5,000

Illinois. Mike Bost received $5,500

Tennessee. Chuck Fleischmann received $1,000 from LCPF between January 1st 2023 to July 15th 2024.

All three politicians on November 30th 2022 voted against the Rail Workers Sick Leave Act. This resolution provides for seven days of sick leave for railroad employees.

All three politicians on Dec. 15th 2022 he voted against the VA Employee Fairness Act. Which would of provided collective bargaining rights to tens of thousands of workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

49:00 - What are some of the changes you envision in the NALC in regards to education? What do you see that needs to be changed in the NALC and do you present those changes?

54:30 - What about the idea of doing Zoom type trainings?

1:02:00 - What are your thoughts are on having livestream of the NALC National Convention?

1:06:30 - Should PMG Dejoy resign or be removed?

1:25:55 - If you get elected as NALC President, you will be on the board of the AFL-CIO, if Trump goes forward with mass deportations without any real guidelines, and the AFL-CIO comes out against it, Are you in favor of dedicating resources from the NALC to help fight back against the attacks on the marginalized communities?
