Houston's First Baptist Church - More Than Fixing: How Great Friends Connect (Job 2:10–3:1)
Description
The book of Job reveals powerful principles for offering godly counsel to those in pain. Job's friends initially demonstrated wisdom by traveling to be with him and sitting in silence for seven days, practicing the Ministry of Presence. However, they failed when they began offering simplistic explanations for his suffering. Effective counseling requires four key principles: being a person of hope who speaks life, meeting people where they are rather than where we want them to be, listening long and counseling short, and waiting for the heart to speak before offering solutions. Jesus exemplifies all these principles perfectly, offering us the ultimate model for supporting others through their darkest moments.
