Noah argues that this history isn't obscure, it's deliberately buried, and that the same patterns driving today's wave of violence have shown up in 50-year cycles throughout American history. They also get into why 9/11 inadvertently put the brakes on a bombing campaign that might otherwise still be ongoing — and what that tells us about how close to the edge we actually are.
