There are some murders where you can at least understand the motive. Not justify it. Never justify it. But understand it. Jealousy. Revenge. Money. Rage. Those motives are horrifying… but human. But every once in a while, a case appears that feels completely disconnected from normal human emotion. A case where the motive is so cold, so empty, that it almost makes your brain reject it. Because what do you even do with someone who kills… out of curiosity? Not because they hated the victim. Not because they were abused by them. Not because they wanted money. But because they wanted to know what murder felt like. I think that’s one of the scariest motives imaginable.
