Cardinals Promote Top Prospect Rodriguez, Release Antico & Linarez
Description
St. Louis Cardinals Promote Top Prospect Rainiel Rodríguez, Release Mike Antico and Carlos Linárez
The St. Louis Cardinals have made significant changes to their minor league system, promoting their number two prospect, Rainiel Rodríguez, from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield. Rodríguez, a corner infielder, has been tearing it up and is now just two levels away from the majors.
In addition to Rodríguezs promotion, the team also bumped infielder Jack Gurevitch from Single-A Palm Beach up to High-A Peoria. However, the team cut outfielder Mike Antico from Triple-A and catcher Carlos Linárez from Double-A.
Antico, an eighth-round pick from 2021 out of Texas, had a solid season last year with Triple-A, hitting .279 with seven homers and 57 RBIs. Linárez, a 24-year-old who has been with the team since 2021, had decent Double-A time but struggled early this season.
The Cardinals moves are not expected to have a significant impact on the major league team, as both Antico and Linárez were not close to the big club. Rodríguez, on the other hand, is a player to watch in Springfield, as he could potentially make his way to St. Louis soon.
