The Desert Between the Curses and the Torah - BaMidbar

The Desert Between the Curses and the Torah - BaMidbar

Season 5 Published 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Description

Before Shavuot, we pass through the desert.

In this deeply moving Tuesday Lunch and Learn class, we explore why Parashat Bamidbar always stands between the curses of Beḥukotai and the revelation at Sinai. Why did the Torah choose a wilderness for Matan Torah? Why does the Amidah call HaShem “Avinu” specifically when asking to return to Torah? And why did HaShem answer the nations of the world with the words: “Bring Me your genealogy”?

Drawing from the teachings of Rabbi Pinḥas Friedman, Chazal, Midrash, the Zohar, and the great masters of mesorah, this class explores the desert not as geography—but as a condition of the soul. The place where ego quiets, distractions fall away, and a Jew once again becomes able to hear the voice of HaShem. Through stories of Rabbi Akiva, the Ḥafetz Ḥayyim, Rav Soloveitchik, Rav Shach, and others, we uncover a breathtaking idea: that Torah is not merely wisdom to study, but the eternal bond between a Father and His children.
