Mastication equipment will be operating on the Prescott National Forest over the next six weeks as part of a 603‑acre community wildfire protection project west of Blue Ranch and east of the Quail Springs neighborhoods, just outside the town of Cottonwood. The effort is a collaborative partnership between the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Salt River Project, and the U.S. Forest Service. The project focuses on reducing hazardous vegetation on National Forest System lands adjacent to nearby communities, where dense fuels increase wildfire risk.
