John Roberts Is A White Supremacist
Description
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was the law that made the United States a representative democracy for the first time. Seventeen years after it passed, a young John Roberts joined the Department of Justice and reportedly began what Hawk describes as a 42-year project to undermine Black voting rights and eliminate proportional Black representation in the House of Representatives.
Roberts climbed from DOJ attorney to federal judge to Supreme Court Justice to Chief Justice of the United States. Hawk argues that every step of that career was guided by a singular purpose: stripping Black Americans of their constitutional right to vote and their right to fair representation in Congress. That goal, according to Hawk, was accomplished within the past week.
Hawk reflects on growing up in rural Ohio and how easily he could have turned out differently, using that contrast to highlight what he sees as the deliberate, career-long racism embedded in Roberts' judicial record.
