Attenborough Fossil Sculpture Unveiled at Beacon Hill
Description
A new wood sculpture honoring Sir David Attenboroughs 100th birthday has been unveiled at Beacon Hill Country Park. The sculpture, carved by local chainsaw artist Peter Leadbeater, depicts the fossil Auroralumina attenboroughii, named after Attenborough and discovered in Charnwood Forest. The fossil, dating back 560 million years, is considered the earliest sign of an animal predator. The sculpture is a tribute to Attenboroughs lifelong passion for the areas geology and fossils. Visitors can learn more about the discovery at interpretation boards near the lower car park.
