Actor and politician Vijay on Wednesday met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar and staked claim to form the next government after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, secured support from the Congress and smaller parties. Vijay approached the Governor with the backing of 112 MLAs but was asked to return with support from at least 118 MLAs, the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

Meanwhile, India and Vietnam elevated ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese President To Lam in Delhi.

Separately, the Central Cabinet approved a proposal to grant Vande Mataram legal status equal to the national anthem.
