When Doing the Right Thing Still Gets Hard
Being a good person
and trying to do the right thing
doesn’t guarantee
an easy time
or a smooth path.
But the psalm writer,
looking back over the journey, says:
“We went through fire and through water;
yet you have brought us out
to a spacious place.”
That’s from Psalm 66.
They went through fire.
They went through flood.
But they did not go through it alone.
They went through it together.
They were held by one another.
And they were sustained by the God
who listens.
So when we go through
our own fires and floods,
let us hold tightly
to one another.
And together,
let us keep walking,
trusting that God is with us,
guiding us
toward the spacious place
on the other side.
