Carlo Acutis: Saint of the Young, in Knock – Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo and Gwen Wiseman

Published 1 week ago
Description

Mary Hooton interviews Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo and Gwen Wiseman, who have brought first-class relics of St Carlo Acutis to Knock Shrine as part of a pilgrimage tour of Ireland. Monsignor Anthony — based in Assisi, the city where Carlo lived and is buried — describes the five relics they carry: a lock of hair, a fragment of his favourite t-shirt, a piece of the blanket that covered him as he died of leukaemia, and the major relic, the pericardium from Assisi’s diocese.

Gwen, an Irish-rooted laywoman who moved to Assisi eight years ago and stumbled into Carlo’s story, speaks about Carlo’s “five steps to be a saint”, how to imitate them, and about the resonance Carlo has found in Ireland, which she connects to St Patrick. The relics will travel on to the Diocese of Ferns and then Cork, where they will be central to a mission at the end of May. Contact Radio Maria to request a parish visit; Monsignor Anthony’s book St Carlo Acutis: Saint of the Young is available from Shanway Press.
