https://www.darknethorrorstories.com/2022/05/11/i-took-a-disturbing-job-on-the-deep-web/I have a background in computer science and development. For years I worked in the industry getting laid off and my jobs getting passed over to kids out of college who would get paid less but work longer hours. They didn’t have families and didn’t need the higher wages plus they could stay around the clock if they were willing. Then they got lazy and as I searched for jobs they became my competition. As they got complacent in working and having fun, their jobs were taken overseas or replaced by people willing to come here and work harder than they did.The computer industry really is a dog-eat-dog world. I noticed while watching late-night TV they will promise you anything to get you into one of those computer IT trade colleges. Perhaps some people do land jobs from there but I can tell you that companies will lay you off in a heartbeat if you aren’t part of their in-crowd or if you are older, wiser, and more experienced. They don’t really care about experience any longer, just how much they can get out of a person and how willing a person is to give up their sense of morality to stand up with today’s society. At this point in life I was almost willing to take any job. I didn’t want to get covid so I didn’t want a tech support job sitting next to another person who could get me sick. I didn’t want to fix computers around the office because, again, I didn’t want to get sick. I applied for dozens of programming jobs but none of them were paying decent, had any benefits, or if they did the jobs were snatched up so fast that I couldn’t compete. I did this day after day searching through want ads in the paper, classifieds on the computer, headhunters, querying job boards, you name it! NO ONE wanted to hire me.Then I saw it. The job was perfect. The hours were late. Check! I needed to have a clean background. Check! I needed to be a licensed driver with a decent running car. Check and checkmate! The job said to text this number and it would come back with questions so I started a new google account and grabbed a google voice number then I texted the number and some generic questions came back right away.Do you have time to answer some questions?I answered: YesGood. What is your name?I paused. Did I want to give some stranger my name? Bob Jones. So I lied.Hello Bob. Are you over 21?Yes.Can you drive?Yes.Do you own a car?Yes.Can you pass a background check?OK This is where the problem lies. I didn’t give them my real name but I answered Yes anyway.Good. Click here to start a live chat session with a representative for a further interview.I tapped on the link and the phone forwarded me to a website that forwarded to another website and then another. If they were trying to hide it, they weren’t doing a very good job at it. I could see the IP addresses every time the phone changed the URL. They were all IP addresses not domain names but it would still leave a trail. Anyone that careless doesn’t really care if they’re being traced so I let it continue. Then I received another message with an address. I’d write it down here but honestly, I’m afraid to. The message said to take a screenshot right then and look at the time of the appointment. If I agreed with the appointment time then I could follow the directions on the screenshot I had made. I could either respond and choose a different time or pick that one. I picked that one.Well enough. The appointment was to be the next morning at 9:00 AM. I kept all of the messages on my phone but when awoke the next morning I realized they had all vanished. I was only left with the screenshot. Glad I took it. I took a shower and put on my best IT pants and dress shirt. Normally I wear Jeans on the job but some companies, especially secret ones like this, want their IT pers
