No ma’am listen to me,” Arjun Sondhi said, trying his best English dialect and, almost slamming his fist down on the desk he continued, “You have to listen to me. Me. Yes, me!”He felt a warm hand on his shoulder and knew it was his boss Vijay ready to tell him to go home for the day. He hadn’t had any sales in a few days since the last time the ScammerKiller on YouTube had taken all of the money he siphoned from a 68 year old woman’s account in the States.“Arjun, calm down. You have one more call and then I want you to go home.”Arjun looked up at his boss, almost thankful he was allowed one more call. “I am irritated, sir. These YouTubers are killing us.”“Do not worry, son. They are a small amount compared to the money we make here. There are so many more people who do not even go to YouTube. They will never know.”“I’d like to know my future here, Sir. Is it all worth it?”“You can find out. Go out there on the streets and find another job. Nothing will pay you as much as we do here.”“Yes, Sir.” Arjun said as he sat back down and put the headphones on. One more call to make my goal then I will take the day off.As Vijay walked off and Arjun turned his workstation software back on, the phone began ringing again. “Hello, this is the technical support department. My name is Mike. How may I help you?”The voice of an elderly American woman echoed into his ear. Arjun smiled as she said her name and the problem at hand. He enjoyed speaking to the elderly, especially the women, they were the most gullible.“Hello, ma’am. You say your phone is not working?”“I said, young man, that a message popped up on my screen that said I had a virus. How can my phone get a virus? It can’t get a cold. It said my data was in danger.”“Yes, yes ma’am. That means you have a virus on your phone and we can take care of that for you.”“Are you a doctor? I don’t understand. Can I get this virus?” I can’t get sick, I have a bad heart.”Arjun hit the mute button to hide his snicker. At this point, he wanted to play some games with the old broad. How dumb could people be? The older boomers like this were his favorites. They came into the computer game late and knew nothing about computer viruses, backdoors, trojans, and especially not remote access software. They had the most money saved over the years with grandiose retirement accounts–at least compared to what he could make in India in a normal job, but this job paid him well. He was able to afford much more than his friends and family and he didn’t care. Why should he?“Ma’am, I am a computer doctor. I can help you. The virus will be gone and you will be safe from the hacker seeing you through your camera or taking all of your data on your hard drive.”“They can see me at night?” she cried out, sounding ashamed.“Yes, ma’am, if your computer or phone has a camera they can see and hear everything you do. That is why we must fix this now. Right now.”“I only have twelve hundred dollars left in my account for Christmas. I don’t have any more than that. It is my rent and utilities
