Imagine waking up and realizing a stranger's face has gone blank—just a smooth, featureless void where a person used to be. Then it happens again the next day. And the day after.
In the short story "Fresh Faces," we follow a man trapped in a waking nightmare where he is systematically "losing" the ability to perceive human features. To stave off the inevitable erasure of his loved ones, he takes a job in the busiest place imaginable: a train station. It’s a desperate numbers game—hoping that by surrounding himself with thousands of strangers, the "erasure" will claim them instead of his family.
It’s a chilling exploration of sensory horror and the isolation of a fading world. Does he really have a choice, or is he just watching the world go dark one person at a time?
