Skywatchers who missed the early May full moon still have another chance to catch a rare lunar event before the month ends. The name Flower Moon comes from Native American, Colonial American, and European traditions, when people used the lunar cycle to track the seasons. For many early Native American tribes, May’s full moon signaled that frost had passed and flowers, plants, and new growth were returning across the landscape.
