When It Feels Like This Is How It’s Always Going to Be
When something hard is happening,
it can feel like this is how it’s always going to be.
Like the moment we’re in
is all there is.
But Acts tells a different kind of story.
“But filled with the Holy Spirit,
he gazed into heaven
and saw the glory of God…” — Acts 7:55
Stephen was living in the same world as everyone else.
He had seen the power of Rome.
He had seen hope rise—and fall.
He had seen what happens
when things do not go the way people hoped they would.
He was not removed from any of it.
And yet, in the middle of that moment,
he was able to see beyond what was in front of him.
Not by denying what was happening,
but by recognizing something more was present.
The presence of God remained.
And because of that,
the moment did not have the final word.
Where others could only feel
fear,
anger,
and disappointment—
Stephen was able to hold
faith,
hope,
and love.
Not because the moment changed—
but because he was able to see
more than what was in front of him.
