How to Boost Your Metabolism: Your Body Isn't Broken (Here's What's Actually Happening)

Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description

Metabolism gets oversimplified all the time. Eat less, move more. That's the whole conversation. For a lot of people, that's where medical gaslighting begins.

In this solo episode, I wanted to slow down and actually explain what metabolism is: your body's system for managing energy. Not a measure of effort or discipline, actually a biological process influenced by multiple factors at once.

I walk through four of the most important ones: food quality, insulin signaling, the microbiome, and mitochondrial function. I also get into why the "calories in, calories out" model doesn't account for how differently your body processes various foods, and why nutrigenomics, the study of how food communicates with your genes, changes the way we should be thinking about nutrition entirely.

We also talk about Akkermansia, a gut bacterium that's showing up more and more in metabolism research, and the role of polyphenol-rich foods in supporting it. The episode closes with a practical checklist you can actually use: healthy fats, eating a wide variety of colorful plants, reducing refined sugar and flour, incorporating intentional movement, targeted nutrients, and consistent sleep.

The goal of this conversation is less blame, more clarity. Fewer generalizations that leave people feeling stuck or at fault for something that has a real biological explanation.
