Banff Parks Canada Rescues: Deep Snow Traps Hikers
Description
Parks Canada conducted three rescues in Banff National Park due to deep snow trapping hikers. The snow is expected to melt out by the end of May, but until then, hikers should check the Parks Canada website for trail reports before heading out. Two groups were rescued from the Big Beehive trail near Lake Louise, and a solo hiker was sledded out from near Peyto Lake. Visitor safety specialist Steve Holeczi warns hikers to turn back if theyre sinking in the snow. This years snowpack is above average, making popular hikes inaccessible. Hikers are advised to stick to trail reports and play it safe for an epic summer once the snow clears.
