140. MakeWar: Jose Prieto Talks Punk vs Emo, The Lawrence Arms, Survivor, Fat Wreck Chords, Friends & Fest | Emo Kids Anonymous
Description
Welcome to EKA140! Today we are joined by Jose Prieto, aka MakeWar! I first heard Jose's music about a decade ago so when our friend Gary Cioni texted me to suggest bringing Jose on, I was immediately excited. Jose has a helluva story and we cover as much of it as we can in this hour long conversation. From his arrival in America from Venezuela to learning english through "Friends" to finding punk rock, we learn all about Jose's life leading into MakeWar and since. He tells us about meeting Brendan Kelly from The Lawrence Arms and winning him over with an acoustic set, signing with Fat Wreck, The new NOFX movie and tons more punk rock lore. We took Jose away from his scheduled Survivor night, so we made sure to touch on the show a little. Is MakeWar an emo band? Would a Rock Against Bush style compilation make a difference in 2026? Why is Fest the best fest? Jose tells us the answers to all of these questions and more!
