Can Legacy Mine Waste Fuel the Future of Critical Minerals?

Can Legacy Mine Waste Fuel the Future of Critical Minerals?

Published 2 months ago
Description

The Environmental Monitoring and Remediation Technology Assessment Initiative (EMRTAI) is accepting applications for technology assessments to recover critical minerals from waste materials at Superfund legacy sites. Funded by the EPA and led by Battelle, the initiative provides developers with opportunities to demonstrate and refine technologies using EPA-approved standards. Applications close on May 8, with demonstrations scheduled for 2026. EMRTAI leverages approximately 100 Superfund sites as test beds, transforming environmental liabilities into strategic assets and supporting U.S. supply chain enhancement for critical minerals essential to modern technologies.
