Description
Fr. Peter George Flynn continues his Easter series with Acts chapters three and four. The episode centres on the healing of the man lame from birth at the Beautiful Gate — a man over 40 years old, known to everyone who passed through the temple, suddenly walking and leaping and praising God. Fr. Peter pauses on G.K. Chesterton’s observation in Christendom in Dublin: the pope can no longer say to Ireland “silver and gold I have none,” but Ireland’s faithfulness through suppression and famine meant the pope could say instead, “Rise up and walk.”
Peter’s second sermon follows, calling the very people who killed Jesus to repentance — not with condemnation but with mercy. The arrest, the Sanhedrin’s embarrassment, the prayer of the early church that shook the building, and the entry of Barnabas, “son of encouragement,” round out an episode full of Easter boldness.
