Clay explains the no-win situation white business owners face in Jackson when one particular culture begins to dominate their customer base. Using Capitol Grill as the prime example, he points out how a shooting in their shared parking lot (completely out of their control) forced them into a knee-jerk 30-and-up age policy that they had to reverse back to 21-and-up after just one weekend because it killed business.

He draws from his own experience owning Club 105, where the crowd shift required expensive extra security and major operational changes just to keep the doors open safely. Clay calls out the dangerous double standard: other groups can openly celebrate and cater to their culture without backlash, but white owners are expected to stay completely neutral, absorb the problems, and walk on eggshells — constantly terrified of violence in or around their business or being branded racist the second the crowd doesn’t get its way.
