I’m going back to basics on today’s episode because I want to take time to introduce and define some popular homeschooling methods, and I’m starting with the Charlotte Mason – or CM - method. Whether you’re new to homeschooling or just new to Charlotte Mason’s ideas, I think you’re going to discover some very useful tips.
I love the CM method because it’s vastly different than the traditional school approach. It is textbook-free, very gentle, using short lessons, real books as the foundation for language arts, trading tests and quizzes for things like narration and dictation, building an appreciation for nature and the arts, and including the whole family together for as many subjects as possible. In fact, many of the methods I share on my blog and this podcast are Charlotte Mason methods.
