Back to EpisodesEp 202 - Mental Health, Community & Talking About it with Casey Lyons
Description
What does it take to turn personal loss into a national movement for change?
In this episode of Get Jasched, Jess is joined by Casey Lyons, CEO and co-founder of LIVIN - a mental health education charity on a mission to create a future where suicide is no longer the leading cause of death for young Australians.
Founded in memory of Casey’s best mate, LIVIN has now impacted over 340,000 people across schools, workplaces, and communities nationwide.
In this conversation, Jess and Casey explore:
- How LIVIN began and the reality of building something meaningful from grief
- Why mental health education is essential (and still missing in many places)
- The difference between mental health and mental ill-health—and why language matters
- The role of community, connection, and empathy in prevention
- Leadership lessons from building a purpose-driven organisation
- How small conversations can create lasting change
They also discuss the LIVIN Better Challenge, encouraging people to walk 9,000 steps a day throughout May to raise awareness and support mental health.
This episode is a reminder that meaningful change doesn’t come from having all the answers, it comes from starting, connecting, and continuing the conversation.
