Wazzup Haoles!!! It’s ALOHA FRIDAY AGAIN… We are in WEEK 2 of Playing Reggae Roots Tunes on ALIVE WE RIDE.
For today’s Episode, the Surfer, Musician and Hawaiian legend… LANDON MCNAMARA will be calling in today to talk about his music and his life growing up on Oahu, charging huge waves and making beautiful music… LANDON is kicking off his 2026 US TOUR… this week.
Landon McNamara was Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Landon grew up inside the mythology of Hawaiian surfing. His father, Liam McNamara, is a storied Pipeline charger and longtime contest director; His uncle is Garrett McNamara – Garret put Nazaré on the world map with his Big Wave Charging off the Portuguese coast. At the age of thirteen… LANDON dropped into a bomb at the 2010 Volcom Pipe Pro The lineup and the crowds on the beach lost their minds as they witnessed this young Hellman sending it at PIPE! By sixteen, he was said to have paddled into the biggest wave ever ridden by a surfer his age at Cortes Bank… And if that wasn’t enough… In 2024… LANDON won the Rip Curl Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational At Waimea Bay. On that historical day He posted a perfect 50-point ride and became The first goofy-footer ever to win THE EDDIE. A victory celebrated in front of his own father - the event's contest director. Away from the water, LANDON has quietly built a second career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist. When you hear his silky-smooth voice and the reggae island vibes in his music… It’s hard not to feel the Bob Marley influence. In 2016 his debut… “A Dollar Short & A Minute Late,” hit No. 1 on the iTunes reggae chart (ahead, briefly, of Bob Marley's Legend) And landed No. 5 on Billboard's reggae chart. Since then, LANDON has been creating a steady stream of singles and collaborations, including That last track "Wild Trip" with Santa Barbara's DENM on Ineffable Records.
