Her father dies when she is four and her wayward mother leaves her with an aunt who neglects Ashley’s baby brother, who dies in Ashley’s arms. After beatings and rape from a stepfather, who also leaves her without food, she becomes homeless at age 6 when he throws her out. She tries to end her life but is rescued. Many foster homes and orphanages later, she is adopted by an American. At Bible camp Ashley hears the gospel and accepts Christ at 13. She goes to Bible college where she meets and marries Paul. They are missionaries in Brazil.
