Description
Paul presents the second episode in his Easter series praying the Eucharistic Divine Mercy through scripture for a new Pentecost in Ireland. He opens with the question put by Pope Paul VI — “What is the greatest need of the Church?” — and his answer: her eternal Pentecost, a Church with fire in her heart, words on her lips, and a prophetic glance.
The programme situates the Knock apparition within 1,500 years of Irish faith history: Patrick’s arrival and Ireland’s rapid evangelisation; the land of saints and scholars; the re-evangelisation through Malachy and the mendicant orders; and then 400 years of persecution, the Penal Laws, the Famine, and the rosary as the Irish people’s bible through it all. The apparition of 1879 — the Lamb of God before an empty cross, Our Lady crowned as Queen of Heaven, St. Joseph freshly named patron of the Universal Church, and St. John the Evangelist with bishop’s mitre and gospel — is read as heaven’s affirmation of Irish faithfulness. Next week: why the apparition was silent. The programme closes with the full Eucharistic Divine Mercy chaplet through the scriptures of the Passion, led by Paul and Marion.
