Description
This week’s show opens with a report on a parish Eucharistic procession and family faith event in Cork — organized with much prayer, rewarded with sunshine that lasted exactly until the hailstones arrived after the last family had left. Margaret urges parishes to start doing things for children and teenagers, trusting that people are hungry for it.
The gardening segment then surveys what is looking beautiful in April: camellias still in full flower across their many varieties; magnolias; the bridal wreath spiraea (Spiraea arguta) with its arching white branches; forsythia; dwarf gorse (Ulex) with its extraordinary coconut fragrance, ideal for exposed or pet-friendly gardens; Pieris (flame of the forest) with its vivid new foliage; star magnolia (Magnolia stellata) recommended as a companion for an Our Lady garden statue; Exochorda (the bride); Choisya (Mexican orange blossom) with its glossy foliage and fragrant white flowers including the golden Sundance variety; and Amelanchier (snowy mespilus) for its delicate white spring flowers and outstanding autumn colour. A vegetable plot disaster involving four-legged visitors is promised for next week.
