Northern Soul – Koinonia: Intentional Community in Antrim – Darren and Kimberly with Carmela

Published 2 weeks, 6 days ago
Description

Carmela speaks with Darren and Kimberly from Koinonia John the Baptist, a covenant community living on the slopes of Slemish in County Antrim. Darren describes a vocation planted at age four, eventually finding its home in a community he encountered during a Catholic-Protestant street outreach in West Belfast; he then served in the diocese of Pilsen in the Czech Republic, evangelising people who had never heard the name of Jesus.

Kimberly, originally from California, tells how she whispered “mujita” (little nun) at five years old, spent years denying it, and finally said yes after high school. Together they describe Koinonia’s work in Northern Ireland: youth ministry in Ballymena and Belfast, houses of prayer, a strong peace and reconciliation ministry at Summer Madness, and a community of six nationalities welcoming people who have been hurt by or distanced from the Church back into relationship with Christ. Two of their young people are currently in seminary in Maynooth.
