Life Issues - Many Canadians Support Euthanasia for Mental Illness
Description
A new report out of Canada should make the hair on your neck stand up. Polling data from the Angus Reid Institute found that 28% of Canadians support allowing euthanasia for individuals whose sole condition is mental illness.
It is good to note that 50% of respondents still oppose it, but more than a quarter of people supporting euthanasia for those with a mental illness is horrifying.
At the same time, the data shows overwhelming concern about the state of mental health care, with about 80% of Canadians worried about access and quality.
How can it be that so many people are concerned that there is not adequate access to mental health care, yet they support the killing of those who need mental healthcare?
