Aged care overhaul funded by health rebate cut
Published 11 hours ago
Description
The Federal Government has overhauled Australia's aged care system, making personal care services like showering, dressing and continence support fully funded after some providers were charging over $100 per shower. To fund the changes, including $3 billion for 5,000 additional aged care beds annually and $200 million for dementia care, the government will reduce the private health rebate for Australians over 65, bringing it in line with younger age groups. The rebate reduction is expected to increase premiums by up to $640 per year for 1.41 million older Australians with top hospital cover.
