Major NDIS overhaul targets cost blowout and rorting
Published 1 day, 6 hours ago
Description
The Federal Government is preparing the most comprehensive overhaul of the NDIS in 13 years, with Health Minister Mark Butler set to announce mandatory registration for all service providers and tougher eligibility requirements. The reforms aim to return the scheme to its original purpose of supporting people with significant and permanent disabilities while reducing annual cost growth from 10 per cent to 5 or 6 per cent. A new $4 billion Thriving Kids program will divert children with mild to moderate autism from the NDIS, with the changes requiring Coalition support to pass parliament.
