CSIRO report promotes smarter protein over protein maxxing

Published 1 day, 16 hours ago
Description
A new CSIRO report reveals that Australians should focus on 'smarter protein' rather than simply consuming more protein. The research recommends spreading protein intake throughout the day at 25-30 grams per main meal, prioritising whole food sources like eggs, chicken, lean meat and legumes over highly processed protein products. Dietitian Nicole Pritchard explains that protein needs are personalised based on age, weight, sex and health goals, with the CSIRO developing a protein calculator to help individuals determine their optimal intake of 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight for weight maintenance.
