Douglas Carswell is a former British Member of Parliament who served from 2005 to 2017, first as a Conservative and later as the first elected UKIP MP after switching parties in 2014.
After leaving the Conservatives, he resigned his seat and triggered a by-election, which he won under his new party. He co-founded Vote Leave and played a role in reshaping UKIP’s image during the Brexit campaign. Since 2021, he has been president and CEO of the Mississippi Center for Public Policy.
