Description
'Overly Sensitive' Brake Assist
If you own a GM product with Super Cruise and have been experiencing overly sensitive automatic braking, there's currently an issue with the Integrated Brake Assist. The company issued a technical service bulletin for it back in November 2025, targeting 'Unwanted Integrated Brake Assist.'
Several models are affected by the issue. GM Authority listed a couple of Cadillac models: Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, and the Vistiq. The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, were also mentioned.

On Hold
Several months have passed since the service bulletin was issued, but GM has just said the fix for the sensitive brake assist has been put on hold for select vehicles. Per GM Authority, there was no explanation given as to why it has been put on hold, nor when the company will start accepting cars for the specific repair again.
It's worth noting that the fixes are suspended for 2026 model-year vehicles equipped with Super Cruise. The affected models include 2026 versions of the Cadillac CT5, Chevrolet Equinox EV and Silverado EV, and GMC Sierra EV. For those who have an older model, you may still head to your nearest dealer to get the service done. The full-size SUVs mentioned above are not affected by the suspension.

The Problem
Based on the service bulletin, the root cause of the problem is a software glitch that trips up the system, sending it into a 'panic'. That causes the aggressive intervention of the brake assist and, at worst, triggers a phantom-braking situation that could lead to an accident.
GM Authority says the fix will take about an hour of labor to complete. The system will be reprogrammed to adjust its sensitivity and prevent further unwanted brake assist instances. For those with Super Cruise-equipped vehicles that are not affected by the temporary suspension of repairs, it's best to have the reprogrammed system installed as soon as possible.
