Poisonous death cap mushrooms are becoming increasingly common across Victorian backyards and local parks during autumn's cold and wet conditions. The Victorian Poisons Information Centre received more than 400 calls for mushroom exposure last year, with half involving children under five years of age. Death caps typically grow near oak trees and can be fatal if consumed by humans or pets, with experts warning there is no home test to determine if mushrooms are safe.
