Curtis Cheng murder inquest begins after 11 years
Published 2 days, 13 hours ago
Description
An inquest has begun into the 2015 shooting death of New South Wales police accountant Curtis Cheng, who was murdered outside Parramatta Police Headquarters by radicalised 15-year-old Farhad Jabar. The inquest, delayed nearly 11 years while offenders exhausted their appeals, examines why Jabar was not identified despite police surveillance of a radical Islamist terrorist group he met with three weeks before the attack. Deputy State Coroner Derek Lee stated the purpose is to learn from the tragedy and prevent future incidents, not to assign blame.
