India and Russia have operationalised a major defence pact enabling mutual deployment of troops, warships and aircraft in each other's respective territories along with expanded logistical access and strategic cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has heightened security near the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian forces fired on Indian vessels, advising ships to avoid sensitive zones and deploying escorts for safe passage. At least ten vessels have crossed safely so far.
Separately, India’s Vice President C P Radhakrishnan concluded a two-day visit to Sri Lanka, where he held talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and oversaw agreements on development, healthcare and bilateral cooperation under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
