Australia expands blood donation eligibility rules
Published 2 days, 21 hours ago
Description
Australia's blood donation rules have been overhauled to allow gay and bisexual men and transgender people in long-term monogamous relationships to donate blood and platelets. The changes remove restrictions introduced during the HIV pandemic in the 1980s that previously prevented many people from the LGBTQI plus community from donating if they'd had sex in the past three months. The new eligibility rules expand access to thousands of potential donors who were previously excluded.
