Treasurer vows to slash $160bn red tape burden
Published 2 days, 20 hours ago
Description
Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has pledged to reduce regulatory red tape in the upcoming federal budget after major business groups revealed that duplication between local, state and federal governments costs Australian businesses $160 billion annually. The Industry Alliance, representing restaurants, cafes, farmers and retailers, is demanding a 25% reduction in red tape costs by 2030, citing examples such as requiring 37 different licences to serve coffee in Victoria and separate licences for tradies working across state borders.
